HANS PESL – Meister seines Lebens

Hans PeslEin aufwändig gestaltetes Erinnerungsbuch an den Motorradrennfahrer Hans Pesl aus München, den Deutschen Meister in der Klasse bis 350 ccm im Jahr 1960, stellen wir hier vor.

Hans Pesl – Champion of his Life

Hans-Pesl-Meister-seines-LeHans Pesl was born on 1938 10 17 in Munich/Bavaria. He started his motorcycle racing career aging just 17 on a MV Agusta 125 “Monoalbero” and already won his second ever race in Gemany’s National Junior Championship. It didn’t take long and Hans got the licence for Germany’s National Senior Championship. He raced a MV Agusta 125 “Bialbero” then, and when he entered the “Continental Circus” in 1959, he acquired a Ducati 125 GP.

Since a privateer in those days needed to compete in two classes in order to optimize his cost Hans bought a 350 Manx Norton from no one else but Jim Redman. For 1960 he ordered a brandnew 350 Manx and at the end of the season he had won the German Senior’s 350 cc Motorcycle Roadracing Championship.

For 1961 he planned to participate at a lot of international events, and the season began with a nice fifth place at the German Grand Prix on the then superfast Hockenheim-Circuit. Since he was the best-placed German he was in the lead of the German Championship score again.

The next World Championship race took place in France, on the Charade Circuit close to Clermont-Ferrand. Unfortunately his racing career ended here since he crashed heavily. The injuries he suffered from damaged his spine and forced him to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

Hans Pesl passed away on 2012 12 14. Since he never gave up after the sudden end of his racing career and since he lived a courageous and happy life under difficult circumstances his widow Trudl celebrated his life by publishing a book about his biography.
